Coach David Ring

The Owner/ Head Hitting Instructor David Ring was born and raised in San Diego, CA.  He developed his love of baseball playing for UC Little League. Ring went on the play at University City High School where he excelled as a shortstop and hitter.  He earned 4 varsity letters while shattering the school record for career hits.  After high school, Ring went on to play at the University of Redlands, a top ranked Division 3 program in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).  He established Canyonside in 2009 after coaching travel and high school baseball.  Currently he consults  Youth, High School, Collegiate, and MLB athletes year round.

The Philosophy

We believe in using the three ”Pillars of Hitting” to help create a strong foundation with each player.

1. Mechanics: We focus on The Swing Sequence, Bat Path, & Getting to the Max Stretch Position. There are other absolutes to hitting like "balance & weight transfer" that are also part of our daily sessions.

2.  Intention:  The driving force that regulates all movement.

3.  Approach:  Requires preparation and strategy, it’s vital to the hitters success.

The Facility

Since 2009, our 2500 sq ft. facility, located off Miramar Road in San Diego, CA has become a baseball destination. As part of our 10 year anniversary, we gave the facility a full face lift including fresh coat of paint, new LED lights, new netting, chain-link safety fencing, plus rubber flooring and brand new turf.

As of 2019, Uprush Athletics has officially moved in! With dedicated gym space, we now offer health and performance coaching for individuals and small groups, gym access for high school varsity and collegiate athletes, as well as mobility training and CrossFit.
